Settings
Understand how the main copytrading settings work together before creating a strategy.
Copytrading settings decide what Preddy is allowed to copy, how large each copied trade can be, and what should happen when a copied trade cannot be executed exactly.
Use this guide before creating a strategy. It explains the builder section by section, in the order they appear. For every detailed rule, open the full reference.
How the builder is organised
The four decisions every strategy needs are up front. Everything else sits behind Advanced settings, collapsed, with defaults that are safe to leave alone.
| Section | What it means |
|---|---|
| Who to Copy | The trader whose activity Preddy watches, and a name for the strategy. |
| Buy Size | How each copied buy is sized, and the floor and ceiling on that size. |
| Sell Size | Whether sells are copied, how much of a position each one closes. |
| Budget | How much the strategy can spend in total and per day, and when it should pause itself. |
| Advanced | Triggers, exposure caps, price protection, execution rules, market scope, system. |
Recommended setup order
Start with the trader
Choose the trader you want to follow and check whether their style matches what you want to copy.
Set your budget
Decide the total budget for the strategy before tuning individual order size. Portfolio-weighted sizing needs a budget to work at all.
Configure buy size
Pick a sizing mode, then bound it with a minimum and maximum per buy.
Configure sell size
Decide how much of a position each copied sell should close, or turn copying off and manage exits yourself.
Open Advanced only if you need it
Tighten market scope if the strategy copies too much, and revisit price protection if copies are being skipped too often.
Buy size
Choose one of three sizing modes:
- Fixed $ — the same dollar amount every time.
- % of trader — a share of whatever the trader just spent.
- Portfolio-weighted — mirror how much of their portfolio they committed, scaled onto your budget. Needs a budget.
The two percentage modes also take a min and max buy size. The minimum has its own behavior switch: raise an undersized buy up to the floor, or skip it. Raising is the default and needs a floor above $1, since smaller orders cannot be placed.
A fixed size is already the exact per-buy amount, so the min and max fields do not appear in that mode.
Sell size
Sells are copied by default, at 100% of what the trader sells. Four modes:
- Manual — never auto-sell; you close positions yourself.
- % of trader — sell a share of the amount they sold.
- % of position — sell the same fraction of your position that they sold of theirs.
- Full exit — close your whole position whenever they sell any of theirs.
Max sell per trade caps a single copied sell. It is offered for the two percentage modes only — a full exit closes the position by definition, so a cap there would quietly leave part of it open.
Budget
Budget bounds the whole strategy rather than any one trade.
- Total budget — the lifetime spend cap. Sells return budget.
- Daily budget — a per-day cap, reset at midnight in a timezone you pick.
- Auto-pause on drawdown / on profit — stop the strategy when realized PnL falls or rises past a threshold, set in dollars or as a percentage of budget.
A good first setup is conservative: smaller buy size, a clear budget, alerts enabled, and market scope tight enough that only markets you understand are copied.
Advanced settings
| Section | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Triggers | Which of the trader's trades are worth copying — their buy size, their sell size, and the entry price range. |
| Exposure | Caps on how much can sit in one market or one outcome, and how many markets can be open at once. |
| Price Protection | How far the price may move away from the trader's fill before the copy is abandoned. New strategies start at 10¢. |
| Execution Rules | What happens when there is not enough liquidity, and how retries are priced. |
| Market Scope | Categories, minimum volume and order book liquidity, and crypto up/down market timing. |
| System | Fast copy mode and an optional active schedule. |
Leaving a price protection field empty means no headroom at all, not unlimited — the copy is priced exactly at the trader's fill and skipped if the market has moved. The reference explains the exact behavior.
Before enabling
- Check that the copied trader is correct.
- Confirm budget and max buy size.
- Confirm buy and sell behavior separately.
- Turn on alerts for copied trades.
- Review the first copied trades before increasing limits.
